  • Jerry Garcia got that perfect band name - "Greatful Dead" while thumbing through a folklore dictionary.
  • Jerry formed his first group, Bob and Jerry in 1961 with friend Robert Hunter. The duo only performed a few times under the name.
  • Vice president Al Gore and his wife Tipper were both deadheads and gave Jerry a personal tour of the White house.
  • After seeing The beetles film" A hard days Night" Jerry was inspired to change his jug band into a rock band. The number of shows played are 2,317 and number of songs performed in concert are 36,086.
  •  Their band's concert on August 27, 1972 in Veneta, Oregon, is considered to be one of the very best concerts in the band's long history.
